Regional and rural transit

Public transit has a direct impact on preserving the vitality or rural areas. By providing a link with basic services such as grocery stores, medical clinics, schools and libraries, it significantly increases the quality of life of citizens in rural areas and contributes to the dynamic occupation of the Québec territory. Supported by the recent Québec Policy Respecting Public Transit from the ministère des transports, this network is serving an increasing number of Québec residents.

Is there a rural public transit service in my municipality?

To find out what kind of transit your municipality offers, there are two options:

  • The first is to do a search in The Network section. Just choose your region to find out what public transit services are available.
  • The second is to contact your municipality.

What conditions apply to the use of rural public transit?

Rural public transit organizations have adopted their own operating rules with regard to fares, schedules and reservation terms and conditions. It is therefore important to contact them to confirm your reservation. You can find their contact information, fares, schedules and reservation terms and conditions in the Travelling by Bus section. Select Planning Your Trip and click on The Network. Then simply select your region to get the contact information for the desired transit service.

Can I use rural public transit if I live outside the territory, and under what conditions?

You should contact the local carrier and ask about services and reservation terms and conditions. You can find this information in the Travelling by Bus section. Select Planning Your Trip and click on The Network.

How can I get in touch with a regional/rural carrier?

You can find this information in the EspaceBus Carriers section. Select the town or city, the category, or the first letter of the organization's name and you will get all of the contact information.

Is there an association representing Québec’s rural public transit organizations?

Yes. Founded in 2003, the Association des Transports Collectifs Ruraux du Québec  (ATCRQ) represents over 30 public transit organizations working in rural milieus. The ATCRQ is especially active in promoting services provided by its members, but also in developing rural public transit services throughout Québec.
