City transit is both economic and environmentally friendly. Use city transit for both personal and business travel and arrive on time at a reasonable price.

How can I find out whether my municipality provides city transit?

You can find out what your municipality provides in the “Network Maps ” section. All you have to do is select your region to find out what transit services are provided. 

What does the Association du transport urbain au Québec (ATUQ) do?

The ATUQ represents the interests of its members, the nine major transit companies, when it comes to promoting public transportation vis-à-vis the public, partners and government authorities.

What do municipal and inter-municipal transportation agencies (OMITs) do?

OMIT is an association of organizations that provide public transportation in cities. It does not have the authority to operate a public transportation network. Only an organization holding a permit from the Commission des transports du Québec can do so.

What do inter-municipal transit councils (CITs) do?

CITs provide transit service throughout Greater Montréal, so that residents of the suburbs can get to town easily for their educational, professional, recreational or medical needs. 

What does the regional transit council (CRT) do?

There is one CRT, in Lanaudière. It covers several RCMs to provide better public transportation for all the region’s residents. 

What does the Agence de métropolitaine de transport (AMT) do?

Its mission is to increase public transportation services so that people can move around the Greater Montréal region easily. In doing so it contributes actively to preserving the environment and the quality of city life. 

Are there assistance programs for public transportation in Québec?

In June 2006 the ministère des Transports du Québec announced an ambitious policy for greater development of public transportation in the province. It seeks to increase public transportation ridership by 8% by 2012.
